Designated Airworthiness Candidate, On
December 13, 2004 the FAA issued order 8130.33 which combines the existing FAA
Amateur-Built Aircraft DAR application process with the new LSA-DAR procedures.
There are several FAA function codes that you may apply to receive.
These function codes will determine which aircraft that you may inspect.
The codes are as follows: Amateur
Built (AB DAR) code 46, Experimental
LSA or ELSA, code 47 or Special LSA or SLSA, code 48.
You may apply for one or all of these codes. The
procedure for applying for these rating are covered within FAA Order 8130.33,

serves as direct supervisor to DAR. You
must apply to the National Examiners Board (NEB).
The Applicants
who meet the minimum eligibility requirements will be added to the candidate
pool and ranked. These ranking will
not be provided to anyone outside the NEB. The
regional office FSDO or MIO/MIDO will determine if a need exists for a DAR with
amateur-built or light-sport category functions.
The The
managing office may accept or decline any applicant referred by the NEB.
You will only be allowed to hold DAR status in the Flight Standards
District Office (FSDO) or Manufacturing Inspection District Office, (MIDO) area
in which you reside. These are the
offices that are within the location of your personal address.
Limitations DARs
with the function codes of 46, 47, and 48 will be limited by class, (i.e.,
airplane, glider, weight-shift control, balloon, helicopter, powered parachute,
powered lift and seaplane). There
will also be limitations according to complexity, metal, tube and fabric,
composite, wood and tube and sail on the Certificate of Authority and annotated
in the Designee Information Network (DIN). These
limitations will be defined by the FSDO or MIO/MIDO based on your experience as
provided in the application. Once
you are selected you will attend a 3 day class and then be initialized by your
FSDO, or MIO/MIDO. A specific staff
member will assess your first inspection and serve as your supervisor and chief
inspector. Applying
through ASC Your
application must be the formal FAA application, form FAA 8110-14 (Do not use the
sub-size forms shown in 8130.33) and the appropriate forms from FAA 8130.33
Appendix 1, three verifiable references both for character and three verifiable
references for technical merit. You
may use the same person for both character and technical, but remember there
must be three different references who may be contacted.
There
are special forms that you may use, page 10, FAA order 8130.33 Appendix 1 for
technical reference and page 13 FAA order 8130.33, Appendix 1 for character
references. Note: you should have both technical and character references listed
on the compilation form, FAA Order 8130.33 Appendix 1, page 12.
A letter of recommendation from an organization is suggested.
ASC will provide the organizational recommendation based on your previous
application to ASC.

is an outlined step-by-step guideline for applying.

Obtain
FAA for 8110-14 from the
website and download. Fill out form accurately and completely.

Obtain
Amateur-Built and Light-Sport Qualification Supplement
FAA Order 8130.33 from the website – This is FAA Order 8130.33 and
the first 13 pages are background and guidelines.
Appendix 1, Figure 2 starts the Application Package, and pages 2-19 must
be accurately filled out. Page 20 is
also to be filled out. 3.
A letter from a
recommending Organization is suggested. ASC
will provide correct form. 4.
Obtain
three verifiable character references. You
may use the forms on page 10 Appendix 1. There
must be one form for each reference. 5.
Obtain
three verifiable Technical References,
again you may use the form located on page 13, Appendix 1 of FAA order 8130.33.
There must be one form for each separate reference.
6.
You
must complete the AB/LSA Dar Applicant General Knowledge test,
which is located on pages 14-19 of FAA Order 8130.33 Appendix 1. When
you have filled out this application completely you will need to mail it to ASC,

submit the entire package directly to the FAA.
We will also be reviewing your forms for accuracy to the best of our
ability. Within
