Guide for Letters

11/3/04

Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE)

Designated Airworthiness Representative (DAR)

There are quite a few Pilot Examiners for fixed wing, so find one and your cost will be about $300 or so.  But, if they are near your home you can save on travel.  For airplane examiners see http://www.faa.gov/licenses_certificates/airmen_certification/sport_pilot/media/airplane_examiner.pdf

PPC and Weight-Shift examiners are not nearly as plentiful.  Travel could be a problem.  Work with your local friends to get a group together.  Perhaps you could save by bringing in an examiner.  There will be more examiners as time goes on.  Right now there are only 11 PPC and 13 WSC.

For PPC and WSC examiners see  http://www.faa.gov/licenses_certificates/airmen_certification/sport_pilot/media/parachute_examiner.pdf

One of the current problems for our candidate examiners is getting timely Letters of Reference.  The next page has some simple guidance on writing these letters.

If you have promised to write a Letter of Reference for a candidate, please get them to the people as soon as possible.

To study for the Practical Test (flight test) download a free PTS from the FAA site.  www.faa.gov
